Corporate Volunteer Experience

Looking to get your company or team involved? The River Project offers a Wetlab Volunteer Experience for your company and staff. This experience is designed to help The River Project staff maintain the Wetlab while teaching volunteers about the animals and ecology of the Hudson River Estuary. The Wetlab itself is a flow through aquarium system that houses a living collection of fishes and invertebrates that are native to the Hudson River Estuary and New York Harbor. The Wetlab Volunteer Experience will give volunteers the opportunity to participate in a variety of Wetlab duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • Tank preparation/maintenance: building habitat for fish and invertebrates (using native eel grass, wood and pipes), cleaning aquarium tanks, and decorations for aquarium

  • Light cleaning: general cleaning of the Wetlab, painting touch-ups

  • Maintaining outdoor oyster populations: checking health of oyster population and collecting data when needed

  • Checking traps: assisting staff members with checking traps and bringing any animals back to lab to house temporarily

If you or your company is interested in learning more about or participating in the Wetlab Volunteer Experience, please email Mackenzie Pope at mackenzie@riverprojectnyc.org.
